Kaleidoscope 2024: List Of Investment Lirik Technology Companies In Indonesia

JAKARTA - The year 2024 can be said to be a golden year for investment in the information technology (IT) sector for Indonesia. How not, a series of world technology giants are competing to invest in the country.

The following are a list of global technology companies that have or will invest in Indonesia during 2024:

Microsoft

In April 2024, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella visited Indonesia and expressed his commitment to invest US$1.7 billion or around Rp27.6 trillion. The news was delivered directly during the 'Microsoft Build: AI Day' event held at the JCC.

The investment will be used to build new cloud and AI infrastructure in Indonesia over the next four years, as well as provide training for 840,000 citizens to create Indonesian digital talents.

NVIDIA

When traveling to Indonesia at the Indonesia AI Day 2024 event, NVIDIA CEO Jansen Huang revealed that he would invest in Indonesia by building artificial intelligence centers (AI) in Solo and Jayapura worth 200 million US dollars (Rp 3 trillion), in collaboration with Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison.

Apple

In addition to the two companies, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Indonesia first to discuss investment on April 17, 2024. During the visit, Apple committed to disbursing IDR 1.6 trillion to build an Apple Developer Academy in 4 cities, namely Batan, South Tangerang, Surabaya, and new facilities in Bali.

However, it turns out that Apple's investment is not enough to bring their iPhone 16 Series to the country. Due to TKDN constraints, Apple is required to invest 1 billion US dollars (Rp 15.93 trillion) to be able to trade their new devices.

So far, the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, stated that Apple had approved the investment value proposed by Indonesia.

Other

In addition to the three large companies, on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum Summit which took place in Bali, Indonesian President Joko Widodo met with SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk and invited him to develop his investment in Indonesia, including technology companies such as Neuralink, SpaceX, Tesla and Boring.

However, there is no certainty about Neuralink's investment in Indonesia. Currently, Indonesia has collaborated with Musk through their satellite-based internet service, namely Starlink.

There is also Yandex which plans to invest in the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem in Indonesia. This was conveyed by the Minister of Communication and Digital Indonesia, Meutya Hafid in a meeting held on November 8 with Alexander Popovskiy, head of Yandex's international search division.

Meutya Hafid said that Yandex is committed to expanding the search engine platform in Indonesia. However, just like Neuralink, there is no further information regarding Yandex's investment certainty and value in Indonesia.

Terkahir, meskipun sebelumnya banyak kabar investasi Google di Indonesia terkait pembangunan data center, hingga saat ini belum ada kepastian tentang investasi tersebut.

However, Google has allocated USD 15 million (around IDR 243 billion) for the AI Opportunity Fund program in the Asia Pacific region, including Indonesia.
