Explosion At Italian Fuel Facility, 2 People Died

JAKARTA - Two people were killed, nine injured and four missing as a result of an explosion at an Italian energy group-owned fuel storage facility Eni near Florence.

The explosion occurred in Calenzano in the northern suburbs of the capital Tuscan in the loading area but had no impact on the fuel storage facility at that location.

"All the citizens of Tuscany are united in grief over the tragedy that occurred today in Calenzano," regional president Eugenio Giani wrote on social media.

Firefighters said the fire was extinguished, while the Italian Civil Protection Agency asked local residents to stay away from the scene and stay inside the house.

A thick puff of smoke can be seen from a distance. Experts from the Regional Environmental Protection Agency are at the location to assess the potential for environmental damage, including waterways.
