US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen Worries About Privacy And Social Media, TikTok In Attention
JAKARTA - The United States Minister of Finance, Janet Yellen, expressed concern over privacy and social media issues, with issues involving the unresolved TikTok platform. This was conveyed in an interview with CNBC on Monday, November 20.
Yellen declined to discuss details regarding the short video platform owned by Chinese company ByteDance. He reasoned that there was ongoing legal action that prevented US regulators from acting.
"We have concerns about potential privacy and social media issues," Yellen said. He added that he could not specifically discuss TikTok. "This is an unsolved issue," Yellen said.
According to Yellen, this issue was not an explicit discussion between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping when they met last week.

In their meeting, Yellen said that they discussed Chinese investment in the United States with its Chinese partners, including a process involving the Foreign Investment Committee in the United States (CFIUS).
CFIUS is a cross-agency committee chaired by the Treasury Department, which reviews foreign investments in businesses and property in the United States that could involve national security concerns.
Yellen added that both Washington and Beijing realized they had the opportunity to work together after a meeting between the two presidents last week.
