Democracy Conditions Ahead Of The 2024 General Election Are Considered To Have A Moral Crisis
JAKARTA - The 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Jusuf Kalla (JK) alluded to the political crisis at the end of President Joko Widodo's administration. According to JK, many parties feel that today's political conditions are not good and think that Indonesia is far from democracy.
Responding to this, the Director of Democracy and Electoral Empowerment Partnership (DEEP) of Indonesia, Neni Nur Hayati, assessed that the current democratic situation, especially facing the campaign stages in the 2024 General Election, is also increasingly experiencing a crisis of civilization and morality.
"This situation causes unrest especially for young people like me where it is hoped that elections can give birth to professive leaders who can change the nation's civilization even better, but the fact is that when what we have to go through is the legal process that is morally flawed, it shows that greed is getting worse," said Neni in Jakarta, Thursday, November 16.
Not only about one of the vice presidential candidates whose legitimacy is considered a legality defect, but also the potential for misuse of state tools to abuse the authority of the president's assistant duties. Even the condition of the legal court is also worrying.
"Towards the campaign stage, ministers who entered the coalition began to disburse social assistance programs, so Indonesia continues to have an emergency condition so that the social assistance program is deliberately carried out when entering the campaign stage?" Neni said in surprise.
"Moreover, later all election results will appear when disputes arise over the results of all the ends in the Constitutional Court, while we know at this time how the condition of the Constitutional Court judges is," he continued.
Therefore, Neni assessed that the critical voice and moral guidance of national figures should always be echoed. Especially when the election stage is ongoing and the potential for massive fraud.
According to him, the law has been used as a tool to perpetuate power, all rules of the game are used by justifying all means, and the important thing is that the goal is achieved.
"To control the course of the election, I think at this time we really need the nation's muadzins who continue to voice loudly regarding the unrest that occurs and the nation's problems are getting worse," he concluded.
Previously, Jusuf Kalla assessed that the political crisis that occurred along with the economic crisis was not impossible during President Jokowi's administration.
JK also reminded that history has recorded that the Soekarno and Suharto governments have fallen due to the political crisis and the economic crisis that has occurred simultaneously.
"The current condition is that everyone has protested, so there can be a political crisis. Therefore, it must be maintained so that it doesn't happen," said JK during a speech at the Habibie Democracy Forum, Wednesday, November 15.
The chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council said that currently the editor-in-chief, political parties, community leaders have started to talk about poor political conditions. That Indonesia is far from democracy. For this reason, he invites the entire community to improve conditions.
"The government must be more democratic. We run elections that are safe and free, the rhetoric is like that, but what is being implemented is not certain," he said.

JK also reminded that the presidential term is a maximum of two terms or 10 years that are in accordance with the constitution.
"Mr. Jokowi is good, first, not because I was there. I know very well there is no problem, but after 10 years (different). As said, according to the constitution it must be 10 years, not more. Once more, it will be problematic," concluded Jusuf Kalla.
