YouTube Asks Creators to Flag Their Content If It Uses AI
JAKARTA - The presence of Generative AI not only has positive impacts, but also negative impacts, including its ability to imitate other people or what is called deepfake.
This was also conveyed by YouTube recently, which said that the benefits of AI for creativity must be balanced with responsibility.
Therefore, in the coming months YouTube will introduce an update that notifies viewers if the content they are viewing is synthetic or not original.
“We will introduce an update that notifies viewers if the content they are viewing is synthetic content,” wrote Jennifer Flannery O’Connor and Emily Moxley, Vice President, Product Management, YouTube in the announcement.
Specifically, YouTube will require content creators to disclose when they create realistic altered or synthetic content, including using AI tools.
“When creators upload content, we will have new options they can choose to indicate that the content contains realistically altered or synthetic material,” he added.

According to the company, this is especially important when the content discusses sensitive topics, such as elections, ongoing conflicts and public health crises, or public officials.
Later, if creators consistently choose not to disclose this information, YouTube will take action ranging from content removal, suspension from the YouTube Partner Program, or other penalties.
As for viewers, YouTube advises that content can be changed or synthesized in two ways. Namely through new labels added to the description panel, and for certain types of content about sensitive topics, YouTube will apply more prominent labels to the video player.
