Jokowi to Chinese Entrepreneurs: Indonesia is a Place to Invest

BEIJING - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked Chinese businessmen not to worry about Indonesia's condition during the 2024 elections.

"So don't let anyone worry about the upcoming 2024 elections, because Indonesia has experience holding direct general elections five times! So you don't need to worry, you just need to hurry," said President Jokowi, quoted from ANTARA, Monday. , October 16

Present at the forum were around 200 Chinese entrepreneurs and 100 entrepreneurs from Indonesia.

"So what are you waiting for? Indonesia is a place to invest, Indonesia's economic growth is consistently above 5 percent, Indonesia's trade balance has also been in surplus for 41 consecutive months, PMI (Purchasing Managers Index) has been at expansion level for 25 consecutive months, "The demographic bonus will reach its peak in the 2030s," said President Jokowi.

Not to forget, President Jokowi also promoted the incentives that had been prepared.

"And of course social and political stability is always maintained. This is an investment opportunity, which will not only benefit Indonesia but also China," said President Jokowi.

According to President Jokowi, cooperation between Indonesia and China must also be mutually beneficial.

"Because for Indonesia, cooperation must be mutually beneficial, it must be both 'cuan qian' (generate profits), if there is no 'cuan', ladies and gentlemen will not come to Indonesia. Once again it must be both 'cuan qian' '," said President Jokowi again.

During the event, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed by 31 Indonesian and Chinese companies, including in the fields of batteries and electricity.

After the event, Ad-interim Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) who is also Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir said that among the companies signing the MoU there were also BUMN from Indonesia.

"In total there are 31 companies, from BUMN there are approximately 9, there is IBC, Indonesia Battery Corporation which is building CATL cooperation in the electric battery industry. Earlier I also saw that PLN is collaborating with PLN China on how to improve grit," said Erick Thohir.

Erick Thohir said that the electricity system includes power lines, because in the future, electricity sources must be green.

"Earlier we also saw that there was a possibility of cooperation in how we build hydropower for PLN. I think these things are very optimistic and very positive and this is part of the fact that we must continue to encourage the development of industrialization in Indonesia," said Erick also.
