India Asks X, YouTube, And Telegram To Remove Child Sexual Harassment Content
JAKARTA - India sent notifications to platforms X, YouTube, and Telegram. Citing from Reuters, this notification contains requests to keep their platform safe from child sexual abuse material.
The Indian government asks the three companies to maintain platform security through the moderation of content algorithms and reporting mechanisms. These measures are considered to prevent sexual harassment for children in the future.
This notification itself was conveyed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY). They emphasized that the three platforms must immediately remove various content that leads to child sexual abuse.
MEITY poses a serious threat if their notification is ignored. Legal protection for X, YouTube, and Telegram could be lifted by the Indian government.
VOIR éGALEMENT:
If they do not act quickly, their protection under Article 79 of the IT Law will be repealed and the consequences based on Indian law will follow, "said the Indian government, represented by Deputy Minister of Information Technology Rajeev Chandrashekhar.
Notifications sent to the three companies are a concrete step by the Indian government in building a secure internet. Therefore, various harmful content, including child abuse, must be abolished under Information Technology (IT) rules.
So far, there has been no response from X Corp, Google to create YouTube, and Telegram even though the three platforms have been questioned.
