Why is Google Pixel Not Officially Sold in Indonesia?

YOGYAKARTA - As the owner of the Android operating system that we use every day, of course Google also makes its own smartphone called the Google Pixel. Google's flagship smartphone has quite a certain appeal, especially with the Google Camera/GCam which can capture images of the best quality.

Maybe you yourself are familiar with the name, but are you curious why the Google Pixel is not officially sold in Indonesia?

Why Google Pixel Isn't Sold in Indonesia

Google Pixel is a smartphone that is quite popular, especially for Indonesians, because it has advantages in its camera. But unfortunately, Google Pixel is not officially marketed in Indonesia.

According to various sources, Indonesia is among the 8 countries with the most smartphone users in the world, occupying 4th position in 2022.

Considering that Indonesia is one of the world's smartphone user countries, why doesn't Google market their flagship cellphone to Indonesia?

In fact, Google has the reason why some countries, including ours, are not in the target market for this advanced cellphone. The reason is because Google Pixel has a feature called Motion Sense.

This feature allows users to control the cellphone with hand movements and uses the Soli radar technology integrated in it.

With Motion Sense, users can turn music on or off, respond to calls, or reject calls just by moving their hands without having to hold the cellphone. Users can also skip music tracks by moving their hand left or right, or control alarms by moving their hand over the phone.

This feature is considered the reason why the Google Pixel is not accepted by some countries which have a Spectrum license which works via the 60Hz frequency. To use this feature, manufacturers must have permission from the destination country.

This is the reason why Google Pixel is not officially sold in Indonesia, not only Indonesia, there are also India and Japan which do not allow this feature on cellphones sold to their countries.

However, Google is also trying to sell their smartphones to several destination countries such as India and Japan by turning off this feature. The smartphones they have successfully sold to these countries are the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. There is no reason yet from Google why its products are not officially sold in Indonesia even though they do not have the same features as those marketed in India and Japan.
