The Archbishop Of Kupang Invites Catholics To Reject Money Politics In The 2024 Election
KUPANG - Archbishop of Kupang Mgr. Petrus Turang, Pr. invites all Catholics, especially in the Kupang Archdiocese, East Nusa Tenggara, to participate properly by rejecting money politics in the 2024 election.According to Petrus, Catholics must participate correctly in the Indonesian democratic party, by choosing the right person without money politics for the sake of realizing welfare."Don't just make speeches, dear and dignified. Even though stunting people are deceived by their money. Catholics must be present to bring change through the roles given, both in the government, legislative, and judiciary environment," said Petrus Turang at the seminar "Gergeja and Politics: Participation of Catholics in the Success of the 2024 Political Year" in the Parish Hall of St Yoseph Naikoten, Kupang, NTT, Antara, Tuesday, October 3.Participation of Catholics in politics, continued Petrus, has been going on for a long time to build prosperity. The presence of Catholics in politics can build a full awareness attitude to see aspects of human life that unite harmony and have an impact on human dignity.Political political calls for Catholics must be seen as a struggle for political life in the church environment, namely as a beauty for communication and cooperation, as well as building community participation for good."In politics, (people) must support each other's community life. The spirit of synod must be possessed by all Catholics to find the truth," said Petrus Turang. He added that the struggle for truth must also be fought for the public interest through political struggles, so that in people's lives goodness can develop.
In dealing with the 2024 Simultaneous Elections, he advised Catholics, before granting political voting rights, to study the track records of prospective leaders based on the results of the assessment, so that they become the basis for choosing for the common good.
