Bringing Rain to Jakarta, BMKG Makes Weather Modifications for the Next 3 Days

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is continuing operations of weather modification technology (TMC) to invite rain in Jakarta's skies for the next three days, namely from September 18 to 20, 2023.

BMKG Deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto, explained that the weather modification by water mist spraying and cloud seeding from the plane was departed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airstrip.

"Today, 18 to 20 September, we are TMC because there is potential for sufficient rain cloud growth in Jabodetabek," said Guswanto in his statement, Monday, September 18.

Guswanto explained that the operation to bring rain during the long dry season using these two methods was a continuation of the TMC which was carried out on September 16 and 17.

In the last two days, the BNPB and BMKG teams carried out water mist spraying and cloud seeding using CaCl2 (salt) solution using planes from a certain height.

"On September 16, cloud seeds were planted in the Depok and South Tangerang areas with a total of 1,500 liters of CaCl2 solution. On September 17, cloud seeds were planted in Bogor, Depok, South Tangerang with a total of 1,500 liters of CaCl2 solution," explained Guswanto.

These efforts have been quite fruitful. On Sunday, September 17, several areas in South Jakarta were observed to experience rain in the afternoon and evening.

Locations where rain was previously predicted apart from Kalibata also included Pasar Minggu, Cilandak, Jagakarsa, Mampang Prapatan, Kebayoran Lama, Kebayoran Baru, Pancoran, and Pesanggrahan, as well as in the East Jakarta area, namely Kramat Jati, and Pasar Rebo.

BMKG also recorded rain falling in Ciganjur with rainfall of 2.4 mm per day, Katulampa 4.6 mm, Ciawi Dam 5.4 mm, and Lebak 4.4 mm.
