Dolly Parton explained why she never allowed Elvis Presley to cover her hit song, I Will Always Love You.
Elvis likes I Will Always Love You and expressed interest in recording the cover of the song. However, Parton revealed in a new interview with BBC Radio 2 why the song never materialized.
Parton explained that the decision was not due to Elvis, but because of a conflict with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
"I'm not going to let Colonel Tom Parker [have the right to the song]," he was quoted as saying by NME on Monday.
'Elvis liked it. I spoke to Priscilla recently' he said, 'Elvis sang it to me when we were on the stairs of the court building after we divorced'.
'He liked the song and wanted to do it. Did it work. They've called me to come to the studio and listen to some of the songs. "

However, the night before, Parker called Parton and said he would not do anything with Elvis if he did not have publishing rights. And when Parton refused to hand over copyright to the song, Parker said he did not agree to the terms.
As music fans know, I Will Always Love You reached a new level of popularity when Whitney Houston recorded its own version in 1992 for the film The Bodyguard.
Meanwhile, Parton will release his 49th solo album, Rockstar next November. The album will feature nine original songs and 21 covers of classic rock songs including Prince's Purple Rain, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction from The Rolling Stones and many more.
