JAKARTA The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that there was a decrease in rice production area by 1.55 percent in August 2023 compared to July 2023.
Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, BPS Pudji Ismartini, said that on that basis, the production (peen) is also expected to decline.
"This rice (rice) production is also predicted to decrease by 4.01 percent," he said when answering reporters' questions in Jakarta, Friday, September 1.
Pudji said that there is potential deficit in national rice production.
"In the next few months until the beginning of the year, rice production will enter a low level," he said.
It is stated that, seasonally the deficit in rice production always occurs in the period August to the end of the year.

On that occasion, Pudji also explained that the increase in food prices had been detected at the producer level, namely an increase in grain prices, both the Harvest Dry Grain (GKP) and the Giling Dry Grain (GKG).
He noted that the price of the GKP in August was IDR 5,833/Kg, up from July which was IDR 5,629/Kg. Likewise with GKG which amounted to IDR 6,760/Kg from the previous IDR 6,389/Kg.
"This is also triggered by price competition by the owner of the grain itself, both to farmers and to mills," he said.
