Regarding Ex-Corruptor Candidates, KPK: Announce Legal Status So That The Public Knows

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said former corruption convicts who would run must announce their legal status.

That way people have a choice when they will vote in the 2024 Legislative Election (Pileg).

"A former convict as referred to must declare and announce his legal status and thus the public will know the status of a candidate," Firli said in a written statement, Thursday, August 31.

Firli said there are no rules that prohibit former corrupt convicts from returning to the world of politics, as long as they have carried out their sentences. However, keep in mind that there are a number of obligations that must be carried out according to regulations.

Among them are making announcements in the mass media that he was convicted and has finished serving his sentence.

"The statements and announcements of candidates as former convicts to the public can be taken into consideration for voters to make choices in the election," he said.

As for the community, Firli hopes that the candidates they vote on will be those with integrity. This is because the fate of the nation depends on the choice.

What is needed are candidates for leaders who are honest and with integrity. This is where it becomes important then for the community, not only acts as voters but also participates in supervising the implementation of the election," said the former Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK.

As previously reported, Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) revealed that there were 15 legislative candidates running in the 2024 Legislative Election. This finding only came from the DPR cluster.

The following are the names of 15 former convicts of corruption cases who will become legislative candidates based on ICW's findings. Nine of them are members of the DPR's leg.

1. Abdullah Puteh (number 1 - Nasdem), electoral district (dapil) Aceh II. Former corruption convict in the case of purchasing two helicopters while serving as governor of Aceh.

2. Rahudman Harahap ( serial number 4 - Nasdem), electoral district of North Sumatra I. Former corruption convict in the case of allowance funds for South Tapanuli Village officials when he was the South Tapanuli regional secretary.

3. Abdillah ( serial number 5 - Nasdem), electoral district of North Sumatra I. Former corruption convict in the case of procuring fire engines and misappropriation of APBD funds.

4. Budi Antoni Aljufri (Nassem number 9 Nasdem), electoral district of South Sulawesi II. Former corruption convict in the bribery case handling the election dispute in Empat Lawang Regency.

5. Eep Hidayat (Number 1 Nasdem), West Java electoral district IX. Former corruption convict in the case of land tax levies and buildings in Subang Regency in 2005-2008.

6. Rokhmin Dahri (rank number 1 PDIP), West Java electoral district VIII. Former corruption convict in the non-bujeter case of the Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

7. Al Amin Nasution (rank number 4 PDIP), Central Java electoral district VII. Former corruption convict in the case of accepting bribes from the Regional Secretary of Bintan Regency, Riau Islands, Azirwan to smooth out the process of transferring the function of protected forests in Bintan Regency.

8. Nurdin Halid ( serial number 2 Golkar), South Sulawesi II electoral district. Former corruption convict in the Bulog cooking oil distribution case.

9. Susno Duadji (Number 2 PKB), South Sumatra II electoral district. Former corruption convict in the 2009 West Java Pilkada security case and corruption in the handling of PT Salmah Arowana Lestari.

In addition, there are six former corruption convicts who will become DPD candidates. Here are the names.

1. Patrice Rio Capella (number 10), Bengkulu electoral district. Former corruption convicts in the case of receiving gratuities in the process of handling regional aid cases, arrears in profit sharing funds, and capital participation of a number of BUMDs in North Sumatra by the Prosecutor's Office.

2. Dody Rondonuwu (number 7), East Kalimantan electoral district. Former corruption convict in the insurance fund case 25 members of the Bontang City DPRD 2000-2004 (At that time Dody as a member of the Bontang City DPRD).

3. Irman Gusman (number 7), West Sumatra electoral district. Former corruption convict in the bribery case in importing sugar by Perum Bulog.

4. Emir Moeis (number 8), East Kalimantan electoral district. Former corruption convict in the bribery case for the construction of a steam power plant (PLTU) project in Tarahan, Lampung in 2004.

5. Cinde Laras Yulianto ( serial number 3), Yogyakarta electoral district. Former corruption convict in the full-fledge fund case is IDR 3 billion.

6. Ismeth Abdullah (number 8), the Riau Islands electoral district. A former corruption convict in the 2004 fire car procurement case, while serving as chairman of the Batam Authority.
