Elon Musk Wants Starlink Internet Business In Indonesia, Cellular Operators Are Worried!

JAKARTA - The news of the Starlink internet network belonging to billionaire Elon Musk to Indonesia is wary of local cellular operators, which asks the government to be fair if it is implemented properly.

XL Axiata CEO Dian Siswarini said the government is obliged to provide playing of fields for all telecommunications companies in Indonesia.

"It appears that a new player who is worldwide, Elon Musk wants to come in. Wow, that's already here and then doesn't get the same playing of field, (we) can be killed," said Dian at the Leaders Forum: Indonesian Telecommunications Industry Direction, in South Jakarta, Thursday, August 24.

Dian asked the government to ensure that the local operator's business will continue in the future if the new world-wide player enters Indonesia.

Dian mentioned, keeping business sustainable is quite difficult, "Because indeed the government must be a catalyst and ensure the sustainability of the business, like now playing of the field lacks balance. Perhaps maintaining sustainability is very difficult," he said.

For information, citing the company's official website, SpaceX's Starlink is targeted to enter Indonesia by 2023.

The satellite-based internet service is placed on Low Earth Orbit or LEO. SpaceX said it would expand its coverage through global roasting services.
