KPK: Political Year Becomes A Corruption Prone Period

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) was a period prone to corruption. From organizers to people who choose to be caught in corrupt practices.

"KPK is fully aware that the political year is one of the periods prone to corruption," Firli said in a written statement quoted on Tuesday, August 22.

Firli then detailed that there were a number of cases that occurred during the political year. One of them is the alleged bribery that ensnared the General Elections Commission (KPU).

Thus, they made corruption prevention programs, including strengthening integrity targeting the KPU and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu).

It did not stop there, the KPK also implemented an anti-corruption program for election participants and campaigned to reject the dawn attack for voters. We hope that the democratic party in 2024 will truly become a people's event to choose a leader with integrity, trust, and place the interests of the nation and state as his vision when carrying out his position later," he explained.

In addition, the anti-corruption commission is ready to take action against anyone who practices corruption. Firli said, the KPK would not indiscriminately ensnare the perpetrators operating even though the political year was running.

"We will continue to work professionally in accordance with the principles of carrying out the main tasks of the KPK, namely legal certainty, openness, accountability, public interest, proportionality, and respect for human rights," said Firli.

The KPK also ensures that it will not delay the legal process against anyone, including those who run in the 2024 General Election. "Justice must not be postponed. Because delaying justice is injustice," concluded the former Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK.
