DKI Will Prepare 100 TransJakarta Electric Buses To Reduce Air Pollution

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared the procurement of 100 electric buses operated by PT TransJakarta in an effort to reduce air pollution.

"Our target is to encourage electrification of public transportation services," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo during a press conference at the Directorate General of Environmental Pollution and Damage Control building, East Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 11.

Syafrin hopes that people who are still using private vehicles on a daily basis can switch to electric buses.

"The hope is that with these various efforts, there is public awareness to start switching and using mass public transportation services prepared by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government," said Syafrin.

For those who continue to choose private vehicles, said Syafrin, the DKI Provincial Government encourages the transition of conventional vehicles to electric vehicles.

"We also encourage electrification in the public transportation sector and motorized vehicles. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has currently provided incentives for people who buy electric motorized vehicles where the Motor Vehicle Transfer Fee or BBNKB is zero rupiah," said Syafrin.

Based on research by a non-governmental organization (NGO), Syafrin said that the achievement of 60 percent of the target of transitioning conventional vehicles to electric vehicles planned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in 2030 was able to reduce 2.3 tons of greenhouse gases in Jakarta.

"This means that we will be able to save or reduce efforts by 45 percent of air pollution in Jakarta. Therefore, public awareness is important for us to both switch from private vehicles to public transportation services," explained Syafrin.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) handed over 186 electric operational service vehicles (KDO) to the local Transportation Service (Dishub) officers to maintain air quality in the capital city.

"We handed over as many as 186 two-wheeled vehicles equipped with equipment such as helmets with a budget of approximately Rp. 7 billion," said Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono when met in Jakarta, Friday.

Heru explained that later hundreds of battery-based operational vehicles would be distributed to five areas of DKI Jakarta as needed.
