Jokowi Is Scheduled To Attend The Opening Of A World Student Sports Festival In China
JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo is scheduled to attend the Opening Ceremony of the World Student Festival or the FISU Universion in Chengdu, China, Friday, July 28 as one of the series of working activities on the second day in the Bamboo Curtain Country. Quoted from the official statement of the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, the Head of State is scheduled to start a second day with an agenda meeting with a number of Chinese businessmen at the Shangri-La Chengdu Hotel. Meanwhile, First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo is scheduled to visit the panda breeding spot at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. In the afternoon, the President and First Lady are scheduled to fulfill the invitation for a lunch of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Madam Peng Liyuan, which is planned to be attended by a number of other leaders of countries. After that, President Jokowi is scheduled to meet student athletes who are part of the Indonesian contingent for the Chengdu Universion. At night, President Jokowi together with the First Lady will attend the opening Ceremony of the Chengdu University at the Dong'an Lake Sports Stadium before ending their working visit in China and moving back to Jakarta. As information, the Indonesian contingent was strengthened by 51 students from 31 universities to compete in the Chengdu Universion on July 25 - August 9, 2023. Indonesia took part in eight of the 31 sports that the event competed in, namely athletics, badminton, rowing, judo, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, and wushu. The tournament is a two-year student-level summer Olympics organized by the International Student Sports Federation (FISU).Chengdu is actually the host of the 2021 Universion which had to be postponed to 2022 due to the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
