Regarding the Urgency of AI Regulations, Menlo Security: Regulations are Very Important
JAKARTA - In the last few months, artificial intelligence platforms such as ChatGPT, Bing AI, Perplexity, and others have become a hot topic of conversation among people around the world.
ChatGPT managed to reach 100 million users in just two months. This achievement shows that this technology is in great demand. In fact, social media like Instagram and Facebook take several years to reach 100 million users.
Another reason is that an artificial intelligence platform like ChatGPT offers a variety of benefits, such as solving problems, improving user experience, and making content development easier.
This benefit is in line with a recent survey from Statista which found that 29% of Generation Z, 28% of Generation X, and 27% of millennials have integrated artificial intelligence technology into their daily work routine.
In addition to its abundant potential, artificial intelligence platforms also bring risks and challenges for both companies and individuals.
"Artificial intelligence platforms are a double-edged sword. Their use can increase productivity in the workplace, but can also cost businesses millions of dollars if something goes wrong," said Poornima DeBolle, Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer, Menlo Security.
Therefore, many countries have started to make regulations related to Generative AI, to regulate the development and use of AI technology so that it is wiser in terms of its use.
Talking about the urgency of Generative AI regulation, Poornima personally said that regulation is very important.
"There is research that says 30% of drugs in the future are created using AI technology. Regulations related to Generative AI are very important," he told the media in an interview session with the Menlo Security on Tuesday, July 4 in Jakarta.

According to him, the key to this regulation is to provide transparency in the development and use of AI in a region.
"The key is transparency. The regulation exists to tell "this is how to use it". That way, we will know what we need," he added.
However, he stressed that assessing the high urgency of Generative AI regulation is very difficult because every country is definitely different. To be sure, Poornima made it clear that simply leaving AI was not a good decision.
