7 Candidates In Batam Will Be Crossed Out, It Is Known To Be Registered In 2 Parties

The General Election Commission (KPU) of Batam City, Riau Islands, found seven candidates for legislative members registered in two political parties in the 2024 General Election.

"We found seven candidates for double candidates," said Batam City KPU Election Technical Division Coordinator William Seipattiratu, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 21.

KPU Regulation Number 10 of 2023 states that candidates cannot be nominated for more than one political party.

In Article 45 of PKPU Number 10 of 2023, the KPU verifies the administration of double candidacy to ensure that there is no condition for prospective candidates to be nominated by more than one representative institution, electoral district, and/or political party participating in the election.

"So, for candidates who are registered in more than one party, their status has not met the requirements," said William.

Based on his observations, among the seven candidates who will be registered double, there are two different parties nominated for the same DPRD level, and some are promoted for each Batam City DPRD and Riau Islands Provincial DPRD.

The KPU is waiting for each legislative candidate to decide which political party will run.

"The solution will be that at the time of the repair stage starting June 25, the person concerned will determine which political party option," he said.

The Batam City KPU, he said, did not write to each candidate or political party regarding double nominations. In fact, his party also did not make any such announcements.

All administrative verification results by the KPU, including double candidacy, can be seen in the Candidate Information System (Silon).

"It will be read there, what status. It will be clear there, return to the legislative and mechanisms in each political party. We do not have the capacity to summon him (the legislative candidate and political party)," he said.
