Experts Explain The Importance Of Increasing Technology Innovation To Save Planet Earth
JAKARTA - The East Ventures Sustainability Report 2023 revealed that the impact of climate change in Southeast Asia has encouraged urgency to address sustainability issues in the energy sub-sector, food & agriculture, urban & mobility, waste management & circular economy, and carbon ecosystem.
In this case, the use of technology in a sustainable manner and implementing it more effectively is claimed to be very important to fight climate change and its various impacts, such as the depletion of resources, pollution, and ecological degradation.
In celebration of World Environment Day 2023, East Ventures hosted a webinar entitled 'Scaling up tech innovations for our planet' on June 12, 2023. This event aims to explore how to improve technology can have a positive impact on planets and also on businesses.
"Integrating Environmental, Social, Governance, and climate technologies is not a simple transitional process, but rather a journey involving consumers, the public and business. At East Ventures, the impact and ESG have always been embedded in our DNA since its establishment in 2009. We prioritize ESG risk management and consider impact as important as financial gain," said Avina Sugiarto, East Ventures Partner Avina Sugiarto, Partner of East Ventures.
Furthermore, this discussion also emphasizes that the increase in technological innovation can provide multiple benefits for companies in the long term by protecting against ever-increasing climate-related costs.

"Many companies are too focused on short-term goals and quarterly figures, thus ignoring aspects of the long-term environment. We need to expand our perspective by thinking about medium-term and short-term goals to make real progress in environmental efforts. Scientific research shows that companies that excel in terms of ESG are also more economically successful," added Ute Sudmann, Senior Environmental and Social Expert & Vice President Sustainability DEG.
On the other hand, Leah Kaplan, APAC Solution Lead, Sustainability and Geospatial of Google Cloud states that technology, collaboration, and knowledge sharing are key to increasing sustainability.
"We see extraordinary optimization opportunities when interacting with customers. When a company optimizes operations through technological innovation, the use of energy and their trace of transportation decreases, resulting in financial and environmental benefits," explained Leah.
