Mount Anak Krakatau Sprays Abu As High As 3 Kilometers
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported an eruption activity in the form of ash ejections as high as three kilometers out of the crater of Mount Anak Krakatau in the southern waters of Sunda, South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province.The head of PVMBG, Hendra Gunawan, said the eruption occurred today at 08.46 WIB and could not be heard from the sound of a bang."The height of the eruption column is 3,000 meters with the wind to the southwest," he said in a statement received in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, June 9.The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 50 millimeters and a temporary duration of approximately 13 minutes 22 seconds.The closest settlement is on Sibesi Island, which is 16.5 kilometers from Anak Krakatau Island.As of 10.00 WIB, Mount Anak Krakatau still emits gray smoke to thick brown with a height of approximately 50 to 300 meters and the wind to the southwest.
Mount Anak Krakatau is currently at level III or on standby with recommendations to the public, visitors, tourists, or climbers not to approach the volcano or to move within a 5 kilometer radius of the active crater.
