Pertamina Successfully Reduced 31.06 Percent Carbon Emissions

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) has succeeded in reducing 31.06 percent of carbon emissions from the baseline in 2010 as a form of commitment to the Company's principles and governance (ESG).

"Of course this is not the end of the achievement, this is only the beginning after 3 years we have handled this with a decarbonization program. We have to improve a lot. But we have succeeded in reducing 31 percent of carbon emissions from all Pertamina operations from upstream to downstream," said Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati, in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, June 7.

Furthermore, Nicke explained that Pertamina has also obtained the second rank ESG 22.1 from the ESG rating institution in 2022, compared to the score previously recorded 28.1 in 2021.

Meanwhile, Pertamina has targeted to reduce Carbon Dioxide by 81.4 million tons by 2060. To achieve this renewal, Pertamina is trying to develop new businesses in various lines.

The new business includes the construction of Electrical Vehicle (EV) Charging & Swapping, production of blue or green hydrogen, implementation of nature based solutions, production of batteries and electric vehicles, production of biofuels and running a business in the carbon market.

In line with the sustainable energy transition, Pertamina is committed to developing New and Renewable Energy (EBT) infrastructure, which is expected to generate revenues of 30 - 40 billion US dollars by 2060.

"Actually, if we look at this as the largest energy company today, but we are not sustainable forever. With the global energy transition and a lot of demands for change, then this big theme is that we have to make a road map so that this company can sustain growth," he concluded.
