The impact of the attack is still uncertain, but some possible impacts that may occur as a result of the cyberattack are as follows:
Service Disruption: The attack caused the Italian Ministry of Industry's web and application portals to malfunction. This can interfere with access and services that are usually provided through the portal, including application submissions, registration, or industrial-related access.
Operational disorders: The attack could disrupt the internal operations of the Italian Ministry of Industry. Systems affected by attacks may be disrupted or unable to function properly, thus hampering the work process and ministry efficiency.
Potential Data Theft: While initial inspections do not show evidence of data theft, there is still the possibility that the attack could potentially steal or access sensitive information stored in the system. In this case, the confidentiality of user data and privacy can be threatened.
Reputational losses: Successful cyberattacks against the Italian Ministry of Industry can tarnish the image and reputation of the institution. This can affect public confidence in the security and reliability of the system provided by the ministry.
However, the actual impact will depend on the level of attack, the effectiveness of mitigation steps, and the recovery ability carried out by related parties.
