Vice President Questions KPK's Intention To Throw Corruptors Into Nusakambangan: Does It Really Make A Trap?
Vice President Ma'ruf Amin questioned the discourse of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to place corruption convicts in the Nusakambangan Penitentiary, Cilacap Regency, Central Java to provide a stronger deterrent effect.
"Is it really to deter that one way to carry out the mine? Or maybe from his own legal system?" said Vice President Ma'ruf in Ternate, North Maluku, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, May 12.
On Tuesday (9/5), KPK Deputy Chair Nuru Ghufron said the KPK discussed convicts of corruption cases to serve criminal penalties in Nusakambangan prison because they could be more frightening and have a deterrent effect because currently prisons for corruptors are considered less deterrent effects so that the anti-corruption agency considers alternative locations.
"I think the suggestion from the KPK is that the point is that our correctional system is not effective, yes, to deter corruptors. That's right? So there is a suggestion to'mine' due to other factors," said the Vice President.
The vice president considered that the problem was in the implementation of punishment for corruptors.
"If the alternative is only Nusakambangan to deter, of course, but if there are other alternatives, of course, I think it will be discussed so that we are more objective in what we want to achieve. The point is to be deterrent, I think the key is that," added the Vice President.
The discourse on placing corruption convicts to Nusakambangan Prison is contained in an upload on the official KPK Instagram account @official.KPK.

In the upload, the KPK recommends several improvements to the management of correctional institutions (prisons) to provide a stronger deterrent effect and prevent corruption.
Furthermore, in the recommendation for medium-term improvement, the KPK suggested three things:
1. The revision of Presidential Regulation (PP) Number 99 of 2012 is carried out regarding the granting of remissions to drug cases.
2. Create a diversion mechanism for minor criminal cases and narcotics users by optimizing the role of the Correctional Agency.
3. Putting/forwarding corruption convicts to Nusakambangan.
