Two Counterfeit Money Dealers Arrested, Police Confiscate 392 Fake Dollars Equivalent To IDR 1.3 Billion

Two suspects in the circulation of counterfeit dollars equivalent to Rp1.3 billion were arrested by the Opsnal Team of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sidoharjo Police, Sragen Police. The two suspects named Supriyanto, a resident of Siak Regency, and Slamet Karianto, a resident of Malang, East Java, were arrested by officers on Saturday, February 11, then.

When questioned, Sragen Police Chief AKBP Piter Yanottama explained that the suspect admitted that he received hundreds of counterfeit dollars from someone for Rp. 15 million.

This case was revealed thanks to the foresight of the Sidoharjo Police Criminal Investigation Unit, when receiving a fraud report, which was accompanied by payments using counterfeit dollars in the Sidoharjo Sragen area.

"From the deepening of the case, then we first put aside the fraud case committed by the suspect, and we focus on the circulation of counterfeit currencies, which if there is a value equivalent to 1.3 billion," Piter said via text message, Friday, March 10.

"Evidence of counterfeit dollars is in the form of 2 counterfeit currency bundles of USD 100 and USD 194 each, and 2 dollar bundles in 1 dollar each denomination as much as 198 shares," Piter added.

Regarding the ownership of 392 counterfeit dollar bills worth 68,498 dollars, the two suspects were threatened with Article 245 of the Criminal Code, regarding distributing or storing counterfeit money (dollar currency).

Added by Sidoharjo Police Chief AKP Harno, the arrest of the suspect was based on information provided by the public, both of them stayed in one of the rooms in the Sidoharjo Sragen area.

However, during the search, the suspects had checked out of the inn without informing the inn. The suspect was then successfully chased by the Masaran Police Opsnal team in the Masaran Sragen area.

From the arrests of the suspects, officers found evidence of counterfeit US Dollar denominations of 392 pieces in the form of counterfeit 100 dollar denominations and counterfeit 1 dollar denominations or equivalent to Rp1.3 billion if there was value in rupiah.
