Indonesia Masters 2023: Slow Heat, Jonatan Christie Almost Extorted
JAKARTA - Indonesian men's singles, Jonatan Christie managed to lock in a ticket to the last 16 of the Indonesia Masters 2023. Jonathan did not achieve this success easily.
He was behind in points at the start due to the difficulty of adapting.
In a meeting with the representative of Ireland, Nhat Nguyen at Istora Senayan on Wednesday, January 24, Jonatan Christie had to go through a long battle, namely for 67 minutes. He ended up sealing the win 21-23, 21-11, 21-6.
After falling behind in the early game, this fourth seed was acknowledged because of his condition, which had difficulty adapting.
"The first set of adaptation was indeed slow, plus the wind and shuttlecock conditions were different from during trials and during practice," he did not finish the match.
Apart from the slow adaptation factor, Jojo also admitted that he lost points in the early game because he was not fit enough.
"There is also fatigue because I just arrived Monday afternoon, immediately took the field test in the afternoon, and felt a little tired. But fortunately, everything has been prepared, it's just that you can't deny that you're a little tired," he explained.
Despite losing moments in the first game, Jojo managed to get up and prove himself in the next two games. Until finally managed to secure a ticket to the last 16.
Jojo was grateful and happy to be able to appear again in front of his own supporters.
“Thankfully, in the second and third rounds, we were able to adapt well and thank God we won. Grateful to be back playing at Istora and to be supported by extraordinary Indonesian supporters," he explained.
