How Is The Progress Of 5 Trans Sumatra Toll Roads? This Is Hutama Karya's Explanation

JAKARTA - BUMN infrastructure, PT Hutama Karya (Persero) targets to complete the construction of 5 toll roads which are part of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) network in 2023.

Director of Operations III Hutama Karya, Koentjoro, said that the Trans Sumatra toll roads include the Indralaya - Muara Enim Intersection Toll Road (Indralaya - Prabumulih Intersection Section), Indrapura - Kisaran (Sections 1 and 2), Binjai - Langsa (Binjai - Pangkalan Section) Brandan), Sigli - Banda Aceh (Sections 1,5,6) and Pekanbaru - Padang Toll Road (Section Bangkinang - Pangkalan).

"The construction progress of all of these sections has been quite significant, namely on average above 50 percent," said Koentjoro in an official statement, as quoted on Tuesday, January 24.

Koentjoro explained, the construction of the 65-km Simpang Indralaya - Muara Enim (Indralaya - Prabumulih Intersection) toll road itself is currently at 89 percent progress.

"In terms of structural work, rest area work is continuing, while work on the toll gate and 1 interchange have been completed. This toll road is expected to support the acceleration of people's mobility in the South Sumatra region of Ogan Ilir, Prabumulih, and Muara Enim," he said.

Meanwhile, to support the connectivity of production centers and access to various tourist destinations in North Sumatra and its surroundings, the construction of the 47 km Indrapura - Kisaran toll road (Sections 1 and 2) has reached 78 percent. This toll road will be equipped with 2 interchanges and 2 toll gates.

Meanwhile, the Binjai - Langsa Toll Road (Binjai Section - Pangkalan Brandan) is 58 km long, currently, the construction progress has reached 58 percent. Koentjoro explained that this toll road will have 3 toll gates, 3 interchanges, 26 bridges, and is planned to have 1 rest area. This toll road is expected to facilitate access to productive areas and tourist destinations in the North Sumatra region.

Furthermore, the construction of the 38 km Sigli - Banda Aceh Toll Road (Sections 1,5,6) has reached 81 percent. This toll road section will be equipped with 2 interchanges and 2 toll gates.

"If it is later connected, it means that all work on the Sigli - Banda Aceh Toll Road has been completed as a whole with a total length of 74.2 km. For information, this toll road is one of the main sections (backbone) of JTTS to encourage growth and economic equality in Aceh, " he explained

Finally, the construction of the JTTS which is planned to be completed this year is the Pekanbaru - Padang Toll Road (Bangkinang - Pangkalan Section) with a length of 24.7 km. Currently, the construction progress has reached 73 percent. Bangkinang - Pangkalan Toll Road will also be equipped with 1 (one) interchange and 1 on/off ramp. The speed plan for this 5 (five) toll road ranges from 80 - 100 km/hour, with 2x2 lanes.

The additional length of the JTTS segment this year can be one of the supporting factors in regional development in the Sumatra region.

Koentjoro revealed that to accelerate the construction of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road, Hutama Karya used construction technology and digitalization to ensure quality and timeliness. Efforts to accelerate the construction of the Trans Sumatra toll road were carried out by Hutama Karya in line with President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) instructions.

Previously, President Jokowi ordered Hutama Karya to operate 14 toll roads which were included in the first phase of the construction of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road no later than 2024. In the event that the operation of Phase I and part of Phase II Toll Road sections are not carried out in accordance with the provisions, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) will take a settlement action based on the evaluation results and considerations of the Minister of Finance, Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency and Minister State-owned enterprises.

Until now, Hutama Karya has built the 1,064 km Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS), with 465 km of construction toll roads and 599 km of Operation toll roads.

The sections that have been fully operational include the Bakauheni -Terbanggi Besar Toll Road (141 km), Terbanggi Besar - Pematang Panggang - Kayu Agung Toll Road (189 km), Palembang - Indralaya Toll Road (22 km), Medan Binjai Toll Road (17 km), Pekanbaru - Dumai Toll Road (132 km), Sigli Banda Aceh Toll Road Sections 2, 3 and 4 (37 km) and Binjai - Langsa Toll Road Section 1 (12 km), Bengkulu - Taba Penanjung Toll Road (18 km) and Bangkinang - Pangkalan Toll Road (31km).
