Bakamla Aceh Help The Evacuation Of Illegal Rohingya Immigrants

JAKARTA - The Maritime Security Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Bakamla RI) through Bakamla Station Banda Aceh helped evacuate illegal Rohingya immigrants who were stranded on Ladong Village Beach, Aceh Besar after the wooden ship they were traveling in suffered engine failure.

"The illegal Rohingya migrants sailed from Myanmar to Malaysia," said Pranata Public Relations of the Indonesian Bakamla Youth Expert Captain Bakamla Yuhanes Antara, quoted from ANTARA, December 25.

He said that while on the way the ship's engine was suddenly damaged, the ship was adrift in the high seas for about a month. Based on information from passengers, while sailing the immigrants did not have enough supplies of food.

The joint team consisting of Polairud, Lanal Sabang, Aceh Immigration Office, Bakamla Banda Aceh Station, Health Service of the Grand Mosque Health Service, and Aceh Besar Social Service who knew the information moved quickly to save immigrants.

"Two of the 57 ship passengers were found sick," said Yuhanes.

After evacuating the Rohingya ethnic immigrants, the joint team placed him in the Aceh Social Service as a temporary shelter. The joint team involved also carried out security around the shelter location to prevent unwanted things.

"Immigrants who are sick have been taken to the Grand Mosque Health Center for intensive care," he added.
