Twitter Will Remove the Old Blue Checkmark, Musk: The Gift Doesn't Make Sense
JAKARTA - Elon Musk, in his latest tweet, said he would remove all blue ticks on Twitter in the next few months.
Before Musk came along and took over Twitter, blue ticks were used to verify accounts that were active, genuine, and prominent people. But after Musk arrived, the account verification drama hasn't ended yet.
Musk just relaunched Twitter Blue which allows one to pay to get the verification tick. The price for Twitter Blue for iOS is also more expensive, which is USD 11 (IDR 171 thousand)/month, from the initial USD 8 (IDR 124.5 thousand)/month.
Now Musk has even said he will remove all blue ticks on Twitter. Musk's remarks came when a Twitter user shared a pop-up saying "This is an old verified account. It may or may not be famous."
Musk then immediately responded and replied that the old blue tick account would be deleted. Because according to him, giving a verification check doesn't make sense.
"In a few months we will remove the old blue tick. The way it was administered is very corrupt and makes no sense," he said.

As of now it seems that Twitter is still working out these kinks of verification. The company recently updated its terms, whereby users will be asked to verify their phone number before purchasing Twitter Blue.
Users will also not be able to change their username, display name or profile picture seven days before purchasing a plan. If they change any of those identifiers, their blue tick will disappear.
