2022 World Cup, Switzerland Vs Cameroon: Yaounde-born striker brings Nati a narrow 1-0 win
JAKARTA - Switzerland managed to bring home three points after beating Camerum 1-0 in the Qatar 2022 World Cup Group E match at the Al Janoub Stadium, Thursday, November 24 evening WIB.
Cameroon had the best chance to take the lead over Switzerland when the game had only been running for ten minutes. The opportunity belonged to Bryan Mbeumo who found space in the penalty box in firing a shot into the middle of the goal.
However, Yann Sommer managed to pull off a fine save to thwart changes to the scoreboard. The vomit ball was struck by Karl Toko Ekambi, but his shot was not accurate, deviating slightly over the crossbar.
Ekambi also took a free-kick in stoppage time, but his effort was too easy for Sommer. The result, until the field referee blew the whistle signaling the game to enter the break, the score remained 0-0.
Only three minutes from the locker room, Switzerland could immediately make their first target at the same time changing the scoreboard. Breel Embolo, who was born in Yaounde, Cameroon, put Nati in front after completing a sweet pass from Xherdan Shaqiri.
In the 66th minute, Switzerland almost doubled its lead through Ruben Vargas' header. Luckily Andre Onana was able to make a good save to stop the ball from targeting the right side of the goal.
Cameroon also added two shots on target during the second half. However, Switzerland's only goal remained until the final whistle from the referee marked the end of the match.
