Mason Greenwood Was Finally Charged For Rape, Manchester United Speak Up
JAKARTA - Manchester United released a statement after Mason Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, coercion and threats. The Premier League club continued to suspend the player while waiting for the court's results.
"Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been filed against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service," the club said in a statement on their official website.
"He remains suspended by the club, awaiting results from the judicial process," the statement continued.
Greenwood was arrested by the police in January 2021 on these charges. He had languished in detention for three days before being released on bail.
However, he was again arrested by the police on Saturday, October 15, local time. Greenwood was reported to have violated his parole. The player is suspected of having contact with the victim.
This also gave the authorities permission to indict Greenwood. The young England player will reportedly appear at the Greater Manchester Court of Religion on Monday, October 17, local time.
"The Greater Manchester Police have gained the authority to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, involvement in control and coercion behavior, and attacks that cause injury. The three are linked to the same whistleblower," said Janet Potter, Deputy Chief Prosecutor, as reported by The Sun.
