Final Fantasy 14 Account Becomes Target Of Hackers, Square Enix Asks Players To Change Password

JAKARTA - A few days ago, Square Enix warned players about a third-party attack that tried to log in to gain access to Square Enix's account management system.

"We are currently experiencing an attack by a third party attempting to gain access to Square Enix's Account Management System using a combination of email addresses and passwords that appear to have been obtained from other online services from other companies," the studio said in a post on its official Final Fantasy 14 community site, Lodestone.

Square Enix says that this Square Enix Account Management System allows users to log in using their registered email address.

"Using the same email address and password combination for your Square Enix account increases the chances of a third party gaining unauthorized access to your Square Enix account," he said.

Because of this, the studio recommends changing the password immediately, if you use the same email address and password combination on your Square Enix account.

Currently, Square Enix says it is in the process of mitigating the effects of the attack by restricting access to accounts it believes have been compromised by unauthorized users.

"In addition, even if your email address and password combination are not the same as those used for other services, there is still a high risk of your account being compromised if your password contains a pattern or sequence of easily visible characters, such as your date of birth," the development company and video game publisher added.
