German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Promised To Ship New And Advanced Weapons To Ukraine

JAKARTA - Ukraine will receive new ultra-modern weapons from Germany in the coming weeks, including air defense systems, radar stations and unmanned aerial vehicles, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in a speech at Charles University, Prague, Czech on Monday.

Berlin will continue to provide all possible aid to Kiev "as long as necessary," Scholz promised.

He said the German capital would host an international conference on support for Ukraine on October 25.

"In addition, Ukraine will receive new and sophisticated weapons from us in the coming weeks and months, in particular, air defense systems, radar stations, and reconnaissance drones," Chancellor Scholz said.

Germany's latest military aid package for Ukraine alone amounted to more than 600 million euros, he said.

"Our goal is to create an armed force of modern Ukraine, to be able to defend their country in the long term," the chancellor stressed.

Meanwhile, the German leader called on allies to adhere to "smart strategy" in supporting Ukraine and coordinating their movements.

"In this case, we have launched a joint initiative with the Netherlands aimed at the division of long-term and reliable responsibilities among all Ukrainian partners," said Scholz.

"For example, I can imagine that Germany will carry out the responsibility to strengthen Ukraine's artillery and its air defense system," he said, urging allies to agree on coordination of their efforts as soon as possible.

"We have to supply Kyiv not only with weapons that we are ready to hand over," said the chancellor. As he explained, this will require "more planning and coordination."
