COVID Cases Increase 2-fold In A Week In Jayapura City, Provincial Government Gives Attention To Orderly Wearing Masks

PAPUA - The Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) conveyed that the number of active COVID-19 cases in Jayapura City in a week had doubled. Special attention is needed regarding the handling of this matter.

"It needs special attention for the City of Jayapura, because the increase in active cases of COVID-19 in one week rose from 7 cases on July 20 to 17 cases on July 26, 2022," said a Spokesperson for the Papua COVID-19 Task Force, Dr. Silwanus Sumule in Jayapura, Antara, Thursday, July 28.

He added that based on data from the Papua COVID-19 Task Force until July 26, 2022, active COVID-19 cases in Jayapura City reached 34 cases. According to him, with these conditions, the application of wearing masks is reactivated both in open and closed spaces.

"We urge residents to re-apply the use of masks in open spaces, besides that tracing and testing activities must be increased again," he said.

He explained that various parties continue to carry out massive and continuous education so that prevention efforts due to the pandemic have not ended.

"We also hope that the community will complete the stages of vaccination one, two and three," said Silwanus Sumule.
