Recovering From Hamstring Injury, Then Muhammad Zohri Ready To Fight At The 2022 World Athletics Championships

JAKARTA - Then Muhammad Zohri will represent Indonesia in the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, the United States of America on July 15-24.

He will compete in the men's 100 meters in the most prestigious event in the world, which was delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sprinter from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has also made various preparations. He also admitted that he was in good condition after some time being bandaged with a hamstring injury.

"Now my feet are safe and there are no problems. There is no pain or pain. The race in Oregon is very prestigious and of course, I have to prepare myself optimally", Zohri said as quoted by Antara, Tuesday.

For Zohri, the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon is the first event after appearing at the SEA Games Vietnam on May 12-23.

At that time, he had not been able to donate a medal for Indonesia. In the men's 4x100 meter relay, he, along with Eko Rimbawan, Sudirman Hadi, and Wahyu Setiawan, finished fourth after recording a time of 39.65 seconds.

Then in the men's 100-meter flagship number, Zohri was again in fourth place with a time of 10.59 seconds.

"My coach said the results of the SEA Games (2022) were normal because he had just recovered from an injury. I accepted because his condition was not good and he had not recovered 100 percent", said Zohri regarding the results of the Vietnam SEA Games.

Now, although he has not set a target he is determined to be able to achieve better results at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.

Zohri's debut at the World Athletics Championships took place in 2019 in Doha, Qatar. At that time he was stopped in the qualifying round after overall being in 35th position with a record time of 10.36 seconds.

"I hope that the community will continue to support and pray for me. Hopefully, I can perform optimally and my injury doesn't recur", said Zohri, who will leave for Oregon on July 12.
