Anies Baswedan Changes Street Names, Korlantas Will Change Vehicle Ownership Data

JAKARTA - The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the Police will change the vehicle ownership data listed in the Motorized Vehicle Owner's Book (BPKB) and the vehicle registration certificate (STNK).

The change is related to the move by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, who decided to change some street names to names of Betawi figures.

"When there is a policy on changing street names, we really hope that there will be a change in ID cards and changes to vehicle documents must also be made," said Head of Sub-Directorate for STNK Kombes M Taslim Chairudin when confirmed, Friday, June 24.

This change was made because there must be a match between personal data and vehicle owner data. Moreover, vehicle documents or data serve as legitimizing ownership in accordance with Article 28G paragraph (1) and 28H paragraph (4) of the 1945 Constitution.

"There must be a legal relationship between the vehicle documents, the vehicle itself and the owner. So the vehicle identity data and the identity of the owner must match, that's why in the service there is a requirement for a vehicle invoice and the owner's original ID," he said.

In the mechanism, continued Taslim, specifically for BPKP, only a police note will be provided explaining the reason and the change in the residential address of the vehicle owner.

Meanwhile, for changes to the STNK, it must be replaced in its entirety. That is, the material or physical STNK and even then replaced with a new one. However, in this change a replacement fee will be charged.

"For changes to BPKB, please go to the BPKB service unit. While the STNK is carried out at the Samsat where the vehicle is registered," said Taslim.
