Tanzanian Foreigners Who Had Been Admitted To A Mental Hospital In Bali Were Finally Deported

BADUNG - After more than 9 months in the Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) Denpasar, a foreigner from Tanzania with the initials GPN (29) and his daughter were finally deported to their country of origin.

The Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Bali said that GPN entered Indonesian territory for the first time through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, in February 2020. He uses a visa-free visit which is valid for a maximum of 30 days and cannot be extended.

"Initially, GPN came to Indonesia with the aim of applying for a Chinese visa which he would use to work as a model. In Bali, GPN met a Bulgarian man who later resulted in a pregnancy for GPN," Anggiat said in a written statement, Friday, 10 June.

"But after five months of being together. His partner (GPN's girlfriend) returned to Bulgaria to work. Due to the pandemic situation at that time, many flights were not operating and the addition of her being pregnant caused GPN to be unable to leave Indonesian territory," he added.

The GPN was then handed over by the Social Service of the Gianyar Regency Government, Bali, to the Denpasar Immigration Office in August 2021, after several days of being treated at the Bangli Regency Mental Hospital (RSJ), Bali.

Previously, GPN and his son were secured by the Gianyar Regency Government Satpol PP because they were found in a neglected and depressed condition and disturbed the comfort and safety of the community.

"Until it is handed over to the Denpasar Immigration Office, the GPN has exceeded the residence permit period or overstayed for 513 days, and for this action, the GPN is subject to immigration administration action in the form of deportation by Denpasar Immigration," he said.

"However, because the deportation cannot be carried out immediately because GPN has not been able to provide flight tickets, GPN and GKV (his child) were transferred to the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center to be detained while waiting for their deportation," he explained.

GPN and his son departed via Soekarno-Hatta Airport with Oman Air on Wednesday, June 8. After that, GPN will continue flights with Turkish Airlines.

"GPN and GKV were dispatched to Bulgaria with the consideration of family union for the GPN couple as well as GKV's father who is a Bulgarian citizen," he said.

GPN and his child were deported for violating Article 78, Paragraph (3) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

It is stated that foreigners holding residence permits whose validity period has expired and are still in the territory of Indonesia for more than 60 days from the time limit of the residence permit are subject to immigration administrative measures in the form of deportation and deterrence.

"After we report the deportation, a decision on further deterrence will be made by the Directorate General of Immigration by looking at and considering all the cases," said Anggiat.
