Universitas Brawijaya Strengthens Supervision Of Student Activities To Anticipate Radicalism
MALANG - Universitas Brawijaya (UB) strengthens the supervision of student activities in the campus environment after one university student was secured by the Anti-terror Detachment Team 88 of the National Police Headquarters for being suspected of being a sympathizer of a terrorist organization.
Vice-Chancellor III for Student Affairs at Universitas Brawijaya Prof Abdul Hakim at a press conference in Malang City, East Java, Wednesday, May 25, said that supervision would be strengthened on the implementation of activities carried out without permission.
"With this case, we will further strengthen control and supervision for student activities carried out without permission", Abdul said as quoted by Antara.
Abdul explained that with the increase in supervision, all student activities, especially in the campus area, must obtain permission from the rector and/or dean at the faculty level.
He admitted, indeed, Universitas Brawijaya had difficulty in supervising the overall activities of the students, which reached approximately 60,000 people, especially on activities carried out outside the campus.
"It is impossible for us to supervise each person because there are more than 60 thousand UB students. What we can do is, every student activity must get permission from the rector and or the dean at the faculty level", he added.
He added that the university had actually made several efforts to prevent the spread of radicalism. There are several programs prepared, including collaborating with the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT).
"Since 2020 we have routinely carried out anti-radicalism activities or education. We also regularly invite BNPT to give lectures to students", he said.
