Bella Hadid Condemns Israel After Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh Died

JAKARTA - Bella Hadid voiced her condolences over the death of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, an Al Jazeera journalist who was shot by Israeli security forces. She also condemned the action via her social media.

Rest in peace Shireen Abu Akleh, the outstanding and brave Palestinian martyr. Say his name", wrote Bella Hadid on Thursday, May 12.

Shireen Abu Akleh is an Al Jazeera journalist who died while covering clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinians in Jenin city. Shireen died after being shot by Israeli security forces.

The incident made Israel receive strong criticism from the public and also several artists including Bella Hadid.

The Israeli government responded to the criticism and said Shireen's death was not caused by security forces. They explained that Shireen was shot by Palestinians who were carrying firearms during the clashes.

“They are trying to justify it. They're trying to validate the murder. Journalism is not a crime", wrote Bella Hadid.

“Journalism is not a crime. Cameras are not violent. The truth is not equivalent to death", she said.

Previously, Bella Hadid revealed that Instagram had deliberately turned off the Stories feature from her account so she wouldn't write about Palestine. The reason is, that every time she uploads about the country, her post gets a warning.
