Vulnerable To Corruption, KPK Will Observe Process For Filling Acting Regional Heads
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will pay attention to the process of filling in the acting (Pj) regional heads. The reason is that the process is often infiltrated by corruption.
"The process of transitioning and filling out this Act is important for our collective attention," said Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, in a written statement quoted on Wednesday, May 11.
Ali said there are 272 regional heads in Indonesia whose terms of office will expire in the near future. Later, they will be replaced by officials until the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) which will be held in 2024.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will monitor the process of filling the position to prevent corrupt practices. One of the possible modes is the practice of buying and selling positions.
"Because this process is often a place for transactions that are vulnerable to corrupt practices," he said.
"Similar to the practice of buying and selling positions in several cases handled by the KPK," Ali added.
There are various ways that the KPK will do to ensure that the process for filling in office is clean. Among them is holding a Quality Smart Politics program.
According to Ali, the program is a way for the KPK to monitor corrupt practices in the political sector. Not only that, but this method can also encourage parties at the center and regions to stay away from corrupt behavior.
Because, referring to the KPK data from 2004 to 2021, it was noted that the perpetrators of corruption who came from the political process were quite dominant. Ali explained that 310 people are members of the DPR and DPRD, 22 governors, and 148 mayors and regents have been named as suspects.
So that, in the future, this Quality Smart Politics program will make parties work more optimally and be able to choose good candidates without any corrupt practices.
"So that the Acting (Pj) and the elected regional heads will have qualified integrity to occupy a position with a mandate for the welfare of the people," concluded Ali.
