BPBD Ogan Komering Ulu Urges Residents In 10 Sub-districts To Be Alert To Flooding

BATURAJA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra, reminded residents in 10 sub-districts in the area to increase awareness of flood disasters so as not to cause casualties.

Manager of Pusdalops BPBD Ogan Komering Ulu Gunalfi in Baturaja, Tuesday 10 May, said based on early warnings from the BMKG, the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds will occur over the next week in a number of areas, including in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency.

Based on the early warning, some areas of Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, particularly in 10 sub-districts, will experience moderate to heavy rains accompanied by lightning storms that have the potential to cause flooding.

Gunalfi explained that the 10 sub-districts were East Baturaja, West Baturaja, Lubuk Batang, Semidang Aji, Sosoh Buay Termite, Lubuk Raja, Peninjauan, Lengkiti, Sinar Peninjauan and Lubuk Raja District.

According to him, these 10 sub-districts are indeed mapped as flood-prone areas during the rainy season, so that people are reminded to increase their vigilance so as not to cause casualties.

"Especially the people who live along the Ogan Watershed (DAS) must be really vigilant considering that since the last few days the Ogan Komering Ulu Regency has been hit by heavy rains," he said, quoted by Antara.

To anticipate natural disasters, he said, BPBD Ogan Komering Ulu has established a natural disaster management post so that floods can be handled as early as possible.

"We have also written to all sub-district governments regarding the early warning because natural disasters can occur at any time, so we have to be careful," he said.
