Fans Don't Expect Too Much, Chelsea Won't Splurge On Players Like The Roman Abramovich Era

JAKARTA - Chelsea fans are euphoric. The reason is that their favorite club now has a new owner, namely a consortium led by a businessman from the United States, Todd Boehly.

However, Chelsea fans are asked not to put their hopes too high with the arrival of a new owner. Some argue that the Blues will not be too long in buying players, like in the Roman Abramovich era.

Under the leadership of Roman Abramovich, Chelsea is known to be very generous in spending money to buy players. The Russian businessman did not hesitate to spend a lot of money to get the desired players to strengthen the Blues squad.

Todd Boehly and several people in the consortium that bought Chelsea, are billionaires. However, sports business observers in England, Darren Rovell, are not sure they can be like Roman Abramovich.

"Listen, everyone is under Roman. Boehly is not a billionaire like Roman. So I think, if Chelsea fans are used to chasing players and money is not a problem, it will not happen with the Boehly era team," said Rovell, as reported by The Sun.

"(Before) you had a Russian oligarch who could spend as much money as he wanted. I think (now) money will be more pressured because they won't spend as much."

"It's difficult to upgrade from the figure of Roman Abramovich because the money is there," he continued.

However, the analyst assesses the presence of Todd Boehly is a positive thing for Chelsea. He just reminded the Blues fans to get used to it if their favorite club can't be like it used to be.

It will be interesting to see what Chelsea's strategy will be under the new ownership. Buying players seems to be a must because there are several pillars that are ready to move from Stamford Bridge.

It's no secret that Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen are rumored to be moving to other clubs this summer. All three are heavily reported to be moving to the Spanish League.
