Tips For MSMEs Fortifying Security Defenses

JAKARTA - Kaspersky researchers recently conducted a study of 1,618 respondents in an effort to identify the attitudes and challenges of digital payment users in certain regions.

As a result, more than 67 percent of e-finance users in Southeast Asia believe that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) should start using digital payments for financial transactions.

Experts from Kaspersky also have the following tips for MSME owners in Southeast Asia to re-fortify their security defenses:

  • Conduct a Risk Assessment - Evaluate potential risks that may compromise the security of your company's network, systems and information. Identifying and analyzing possible threats can help you formulate a plan to close vulnerabilities.
  • Provide employee training - To protect against internal security threats, invest in cybersecurity training for your employees. Give them in-depth insight into what to do if they encounter a suspicious email, for example.
  • Update Software regularly - The software you use to run your business must be up-to-date. Every piece of software should be updated regularly to strengthen it or add patches that close vulnerabilities that hackers can bypass.
  • Back Up Your Files Regularly - Choose a program that can schedule or automate the backup process so you don't have to remember to do it. Keep backup copies offline so that strangers can't access them in case your system suffers from a ransomware attack.
  • Implementing Robust Security Software – Limited visibility and lack of resources present a golden opportunity for attackers.
