Ukraine And Russia Are Exchanging Data On War Victims, Who Is More Honest?
JAKARTA - Seeing the conflict in Ukraine is not just a matter of missiles and the whistling of bullets. But about the data on war victims who were thrown by Ukraine and Russia.
The two countries often engage in a commentary war in response to events. And it becomes even more exciting when it comes to data matters.
Russia will surely say that the Ukrainian victims are far more than they have suffered. So is Ukraine. This country would surely call them successful in killing more Russian soldiers.
Reporting from the BBC, Sunday, April 17, during the war, Ukraine regularly released data on estimates of Russian deaths. Unlike Russia, which rarely does this.
Now both re-released the data - which the BBC could not confirm - were very high.
Ukraine's defense ministry said in a Facebook post that some 20.300 Russian soldiers had been killed since February 24 - the start of the Russian invasion.
Russia retaliated by saying the "irreparable losses" suffered by the Ukrainian army amounted to 23.367 soldiers, although it did not say whether this included only those who had died or those who were also injured.
The two sides also differ on how open they are in admitting their own losses.

Again, Ukraine has been doing this on a more regular basis. In an interview with CNN on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that up to 3.000 Ukrainian soldiers had died since the start of the war, while Russia was more reluctant to publicly update its figures. On March 25, its defense ministry said 1.351 Russian soldiers had been killed in fighting so far.
