1.5 Meter High Flood Inundates Palembang - Betung
BANYUASIN - Floods as high as 1.5 meters inundated several sections of the eastern causeway (jalintim) Palembang-Betung, Banyuasin, South Sumatra, thus hampering the flow of vehicle traffic in the area.
"We are currently at the location regulating traffic activities, the current situation is that the eastern causeway is flooded with an average of about 1.5 meters knee-deep in water for adults," said Kasatlantas Banyuasin Police Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKP) Ricky Mozam in Banyuasin, Tuesday, April 12.
He explained that the eastern causeway that was inundated by the flood was located at KM 16 around the Sukajadi gas station – the intersection of the PT. Sosro, Sukajadi Village, Talang Kelapa District.
Then the east cross road KM 28 or in the area around the Rejo Dadi Limau gas station, Toy Village, Sembawa District.
The flood resulted in a busy and congested traffic flow in two directions, both from the city of Palembang and Betung.
"Traffic was heavy because many vehicles were damaged and slowed down the speed," he said, quoted by Antara.
He suggested, under these conditions, drivers from the direction of Betung, Jambi, and/or Palembang City should postpone their trip because there are no alternative roads on the roads that were flooded due to heavy rains on Monday (11/4) morning.
Meanwhile, local people are directed to take an alternative road by crossing the Tanah Mas intersection at KM 14 leading to the Semuntul intersection at KM 18, said Ricky Mozam.
