Bayan Purworejo Residents Find Mangosteen Grenades Left By Fighters While Digging Home Yard
PURWOREJO - Another dangerous object in the form of a mangosteen grenade was found by residents in Sucenjurutengah Village, Bayan District, Purworejo Regency, Central Java.
The discovery began on Thursday, April 7th. At that time, a witness named Handoyo (35) and his colleague Sisu (62) were digging soil for a fish pond. When digging the ground, the hoe used hit a hard object. After being investigated, it turned out that a dangerous object was found, namely a mangosteen grenade.
Feeling threatened by their findings, Handoyo and Sisu contacted the Babinsa Koramil Bayan. Furthermore, Babinsa Koramil 02/Bayan and Babinkamtibmas from the Bayan Police went to the location to secure the discovery of the grenade.
After being examined, the mangosteen grenade measuring 10 centimeters long and 7 centimeters wide was taken by the Sucenjurutengah Subdistrict Office, waiting for officers from the Jihandak Sat Brimob of the Central Java Police.
When the Jihandak Sat Brimob team of the Central Java Police led by Iptu Slamet Subagio arrived, the grenade was immediately identified. The result, that the mangosteen grenade was damaged because the iron clip was released but was still active. So the officers categorize the object as still dangerous. If it explodes, the shards can reach up to a radius of 100 meters.
Disposal activities or the destruction of dangerous objects were immediately carried out at around 12.50 WIB by the Jihandak Sat Brimob team of the Central Java Police in the yard of the Sucen Village residents.
The Bayan Police Chief through the Head of Public Relations of the Purworejo Police, Iptu Madrim Suryantoro, stated that disposal of the mangosteen type hand grenade found in Handoyo's yard had been carried out.
According to Madrim Suryantoro, this is the third time this has happened. The mangosteen type hand grenade, continued Madrim, allegedly belonged to the previous fighters and was a weapon left over from the second world war.
"We appeal to the public if they find suspicious and potentially dangerous objects, always coordinate with officers to prevent unwanted incidents." said Madrim in a written statement received by the editors, Friday, April 8, evening.
