Roskomnadzor By Order Of The Attorney General To Block Google News, Deemed To Be Discrediting Russia's Military Actions In Ukraine

JAKARTA - Russia's Communications Regulator, Roskomnadzor, Wednesday, March 23, has blocked news aggregator Alphabet Google News. They accused him of allowing access to what they called false material about the country's military operations in Ukraine.

As quoted by Interfax, Roskomnadzor, has carried out this blocking action at the request of the Russian attorney general's office.

"Relevant American online news sources provide access to a wide range of publications and materials containing inauthentic and publicly important information about the course of special military operations on Ukrainian territory", Interfax quoted the regulator as saying.

Russia's new law now prohibits reporting of any event that could discredit the Russian military. This includes news stories uploaded by Google News.

Google News has been reporting a lot about the actions of the Russian military that invaded and destroyed Ukraine. On the contrary, the Russian government considers what they are doing as a special measure that is needed.

Google itself was not immediately available for comment on the various measures Russia continues to limit or block their services in Russia.
