After A Long Delay, The PDP Bill Will Be Discussed By The DPR And The Government Starting Next Week
JAKARTA - The frequent data leaks experienced by Indonesian citizens make the draft of the Personal Data Protection Law (RUU PDP) urgent to be immediately ratified into law.
Had stalled, now the discussion of the PDP Bill seems to have started to see a bright spot. The government has expressed a commitment to jointly discuss the bill with the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo), Johnny G Plate, said the government is committed to protecting people's personal data. He also ensured that the discussion of the PDP Bill would continue.
"I'm excited to finalize the PDP Bill into the PDP Law, if possible it was finished yesterday, if possible yesterday. I'm happy today too, especially tomorrow," said Plate during a working meeting with Commission I of the DPR, Tuesday, March 22. However, he explained that the PDP Bill could not be discussed by the government alone. He also admitted that he was waiting for an invitation to a meeting to discuss the bill from the working committee (Panja) of the DPR Commission I PDP bill. "I am bound by the laws and regulations. We are waiting for the schedule," said Plate.
The government is ready, so when will the DPR schedule a discussion?
