JAKARTA WhatsApp, Meta's messaging platform, announced an update on its status feature. This feature, named About, still displays text updates for short, but with a different look.

The updated text in the status can be seen by anyone in the user's contacts. WhatsApp says that users can use this feature to notify others about activities or new things in their lives.

For example, users can create a status that triggers light conversations with friends or colleagues. Users can also create a status containing an explanation as to why they are difficult to contact or cannot respond in the future.

Even though it looks new, WhatsApp emphasizes that this About feature is the first WhatsApp feature. WhatsApp only changes its appearance so that other users can see its status appear at the top of the chat room.

Apart from the chat room, the About status will also be visible on the user's profile. Other users can tap on a person's status in the chat room to reply immediately. This will open up rapid interaction opportunities.

This status display is made more similar to Instagram Notes. The status duration has also changed. Now, About's status will disappear within 24 hours automatically. This limited duration will make content always new.

However, the company also gives users full control over the lost time of the status. Users can adjust the time controller to make the status disappear faster or last longer than the 24-hour limit.

To maintain privacy, users can also set who can view their About status. This privacy option allows the status to only be seen by contacts or opened for public view.

When launched, this feature only supports status, not yet supporting short video or music playback. However, it is possible that both features will be added to About's future status.
