JAKARTA Meta AI in the Facebook app can now suggest editing for photos stored in the user's phone gallery. This capability is being tested on a limited basis in the US and Canada.
With this feature, users will get various suggestions for uploading photos created by AI. If users receive one suggestion, they will be directed to upload photos to Facebook Stories or to feeds.
Before using this feature, if the feature is widely available, users will see a permission dialog box. Users need to activate the 'allow cloud processing' button so that the feature can work properly.
The dialogue box explains that this feature can offer a variety of ideas such as collage, recap, AI rearrangement, and birthday themes. All these suggestions are made automatically based on photos on the user's device.
In order for AI to function, the Facebook app will upload images from the device to its cloud in a sustainable manner in the background. This process allows Meta AI to perform analysis and create editing suggestions.
Although Meta states that users' photos will not be used for advertising needs, there are important notes regarding data usage. Meta will not use the media to train its AI system, unless users edit and share photos.

By approving the AI Meta Service Requirements, users allow their facial and media features to be analyzed by AI. This gives Meta the ability to summarize content, modify images, and generate new content based on photos stored on mobile phones.
